What follows is our rather over eager-ed excitement about the possibility of an iPad 2 and great iPad 2 Cases before we even knew it was definitely coming!

Isn't it a bit early to be talking about iPad 2 Cases? Most certainly not! Gadgets are cool and fun, but gadget accessories are even more fun and cheap enough to buy without saving for a whole year first!

No-one is really sure what the iPad 2 will be. Many thought Apple would give us a second smaller version of their popular tablet. But that looks less and less likely since Steve Jobs says the technology behind their gadget would be wasted on a seven inch display.

What we can almost be sure of though, is that the size will be reduced a little. After all we all want slimmer, lighter gadgets and iPad users are no different. The first tablet made by Apple, might be beautiful and very popular, but it is, let's be honest, a little on the clunky side too.

The next generation iPad is sure to be significantly lighter and slimmer in design. It also almost definitely going to come with a camera (well probably two actually so we can all chat to our friends with FaceTime).

All this means that the iPad 2 will need a new case or cover. Come on, you would have probably splashed out on new iPad cases to suit your new toy anyway, but having the excuse that old iPad cover simply won't fit, is nice isn't it?

To be honest, some of you could probably get away with using your old iPad cases on the new model.  But luckily, if you are using anything other than a simple sleeve or pouch, the chances are you will have a great excuse to go shopping for a new one.

The addition of a USB port will affect some covers, but the most important things are that the thickness will be less, and their will need to be cut outs to ensure the new cameras work.  True the forward facing one probably won't be much of an issue for most cases.  But the camera on the back of the device will be particularly pointless if your old iPad shell is covering it!

The one problem when new gadgets are kept so secret, is that manufacturers for all the groovy accessories are left on the back-foot a little. It happened when Amazon released the Kindle 3.  No-one knew it was going to be so different to the old model, so no-one apart from Amazon had any covers available for it.  Not such a problem here since one of the best Kindle 3 covers, even after six months is the Amazon own leather lighted one.  

But, we know that Apple may make the best gadgets, but they certainly don't make the best accessories to go with them.  So if you are one of the lucky ones able to get your hands on the first release of the new iPad 2, don't bother with an Apple case for it.  Just be careful with your new toy and perhaps buy it a splendid jiffy envelope to keep it safe for now, and wait for the range of great new iPad 2 covers that will turn up before long.
